Guess who is in Town?!

Well, my mum is here to visit for two weeks. It has been almost three years we have not seen each other. It is really good to be together again. So I took a week off work and off we went everyday doing something new.

We started by Jam Jar for a painting session.

The canvas on the left is mum's and the one on the right is mine.

Then, we celebrated Mother's Day by going out for dinner.

I also prepared for the occasion a special rasberry double creamy cake! Yummy! My first masterpiece in the kitchen!

The Disaster:

Early morning on the 20th of March, on our way to work, we noticed that the sky was black. A fire at a high-rise building which was still under construction led to hundreds of people being evacuated and it stopped the traffic into a complete halt. The debris were flying everywhere even across the highway. Michael and I actually live on the other side of the highway which is quite far but we can still hear the fire roaring and crackling.

You can see the massive flames from almost anywhere in Dubai. They said that there were a few explosions later on. They managed to control the fire after a few hours but the traffic...oh la la!

The good thing is that no one got hurt! Another exciting day in Dubai. Pictures are from the Gulf News.

Culture in Dubai:

We used to complain about the lack of culture in Dubai. Well, you know what?! Dubai is hosting so many events these days that your head starts to spin: the Jazz festival, the Art fair, Shakira, Roger Waters, the Boat show, the Desert Rock festival and the list goes on...

So we went on Thursday to the jazz festival and danced to the beat of Dee Dee Bridgewaters' tribal drums. Brilliant.

We had an enchanting afternoon , the next day at the Art Fair at the Madinat which is already a magical place a la "Ali Baba" style.

We visited galleries from all over the world. We actually saw works of art which you would never dream of seeing in real life such as Picasso, Miro, Warhol and many more...I could have spent a week over there!

And Michael could have spent a week over here! We went to the Boat show. Fantastic engines! They had everything, from monohulls to catamarans, from sail boats to engine boats. I like looking at the Lagoons, they are large catamarans, the size of a villa and so majestic and elegant and yet they are sporty sail boats.

My Birthday:

Hey we had a lot of fun on my birthday party. I was too busy to take some pictures. A lot of people showed up. Good food and a lot of drinks. Old friends turned up as well, people who were with me in the Lebanese Red Cross. No I will not tell you my age!

Michael is amazing. He had a surprise for me the next morning: he took me to a nursery to buy flower pots! So now our balcony looks like a green house which is quite pretty. I cannot stop watering them, my mum says I might kill them like that, which I agree.

My fortune cookie on my Birthday. You can check as well.
